THE METROPOLITAN PALACE HOTEL  – A NEW LANDMARK IN BEIRUT

A fabulous jewel in Beirut's skyline is set to sparkle in September 2001. Poised to be a true landmark in the capital of Lebanon, the Metropolitan Palace Hotel, a new addition to Metropolitan Hotels International, is the latest landmark in the heart of Beirut – a shopper's paradise and thriving city of business.

In its glamour days of the 60's and 70's, Beirut was recognized as the Paris of the Middle East. With its bustling streets lined with French style cafes and millions of tourists pouring in, Lebanon was the leading business and leisure hub of the region for 12 months of the year. But a crippling civil war brought all that to an abrupt end and most people's memories of the country, located on the Mediterranean Sea are of television pictures showing bombed out apartment blocks and hotels reduced to rubble after years of conflict. The country was brought to its knees and the once crowded streets were reduced to ghost town with a city of hundreds of thousands too scared to wander out in the day- light.

But how the things have changed in the past few years! The Beirut of today is making a remarkable comeback and is determined to regain its status as one of the most attractive places to visit in the Middle East. Business travel to the city is on its up and the hospitality industry is showing its confidence in Lebanon by pouring in millions of dollars to renovate the ruins that once housed millions of tourist drawn by the sun, shopping, romance and value-for-money.

Most of the top hotel names have returned to the city, but very few are developing new properties, and this is where the Dubai based Metropolitan Hotels Group has taken the lead- their property has started from a scratch, with a design ready for the 21st century. The group has decided to target a fresh area for development, rather than close to the city centre where most of the other buildings are pre-war and undergoing renovation. The new stunning landmark of Beirut will really stand out against the backdrop of older properties.

Only a few minutes drive from Beirut International Airport and the city centre, the Metropolitan Palace hotel, located at the posh area of Horh Tabet (The park of Tabet) of Sin El Fil districts, combines technical innovation with sheer luxury and traditional Arabian hospitality at its best. The picturesque view to the mountains from one side of the hotel and to the Mediterranean See from the other makes the place absolutely perfect, unique- a haven for business executives, that could be described only as a breath-taking work of art, infused with the spirit of a cosmopolitan city and a mirror of the times.
