Team Habtoor have had a successful polo season so far this year, winning the Dubai Open Silver Cup and now claiming victory at the British Polo Day to take home the Thesiger Trophy. Gonzalo Etcheverry was there to see them take the prize.
This is the third year running Habtoor Polo have won the title. They beat British Army Polo 6-2 in the final, which was held at the Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club. Team Habtoor was made up of Mohammed Al Habtoor, his son Habtoor and well-known Argentinian players Nacho Bello and Guillermo Cuitiño.
Mohammed Al Habtoor, the patron of the team was named Most Valued Player (MPV), while Cuitiño was the top scorer with five goals. Earlier in the day, well-known British boy’s schools Eton and Harrow drew 2-2, while teams from prestigious universities Oxford and Cambridge battled it out, with Oxford defeating Cambridge by a small margin – 4-3.
