Former President Jimmy Carter and his w ife, the for mer First Lady Rosalynn Carter welcomed Khalaf Al Habtoor at The Carter C enter in Atlanta in late October. Joanna Andrews wa s there to witness the event.
Businessman, international political affairs commentator and philanthropist Khalaf Al Habtoor was welcomed at The Carter Center in Atlanta on Wednesday October 15, 2014 by former President Jimmy Carter and the former First Lady Rosalynn Carter. The trip to Georgia came on the heels of their joint appearance at Illinois College where Al Habtoor launched his new 'Pathways to Peace' initiative alongside the former President and the Honorable Paul Findley.
On his visit, Al Habtoor was briefed about how his donations have helped The Carter Center’s work on the ground in the Middle East and its efforts towards the Palestinian-Israeli conflict resolution, as well as how future proceeds could be used. President Carter thanked the Al Habtoor Group Chairman personally for his support of The Carter Center.
Al Habtoor, who is an ardent supporter of former President Carter’s work and the work of The Carter Center, said, “It was good to see first-hand the work The Carter Center does. We had the opportunity to discuss our shared desire to find a durable solution to the Palestinian- Israeli conflict and I thanked the former President for his longstanding dedication to the cause of achieving peace in the Arab world. ”
Al Habtoor and the former President first met in Dubai in 2010 where they shared a passion for human rights and their respective work towards a resolution to the Israeli, Palestinian conflict.
