The Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur R. Metshin, visited Dubai on January 27 at the invitation of Khalaf Al Habtoor, Chairman of the Al Habtoor Group, to discuss investment opportunities in the Kazan region.
Mr Khalaf and the Mayor of Kazan first held preliminary discussions on the matter in November 2010 when Mr Khalaf travelled to Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan and part of the Russian Republic, at the invitation of Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of Tatarstan.
Four possible projects in the Kazan region are being considered. They include the development of the bank of the Kazanka River, construction of a number of multi-tier car parks and the building of two residential developments.Tatarstan is to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2013, as well as the CIS Summit. It will also have an independent exhibit at London’s World Travel Market for the first time this year. Since the initial meeting in Kazan, the Al Habtoor Group has been in touch with the Tatarstan government in relation to the projects. The latest meeting on January 27 brought Mr Al Habtoor one step closer to investing in the project.
Mr Khalaf hosted a special dinner on Friday January 28 in honour of the Mayor, Mr Ilsur R. Metshin, at his home in Dubai. It was attended by a number of dignitaries and members of the business community. The Mayor was accompanied by the Vice Mayor, Mr Oscar V. Prokopiev, and
