Mr. Khalaf Al Habtoor, Chairman of the Al Habtoor Group of Companies, on February 8, 2011, was presented with an honourary plaque by the American University of Sharjah.
The prestigious award was given in recognition of his contribution of Dhs15 million to the AUS Endowment Fund, in order to establish the Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Chair in International Relations. He met with the AUS Trustee, Hamid Jafar; the Chairman and CEO of the Crescent Petroleum Company; the AUS Trustee, Riad Sadik, the Chairman of Al Habtoor Leighton Group; the AUS Chancellor, Dr Peter Heath, and the AUS Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Affairs, Dr Nada Mourtada Sabbah Khalaf Al Habtoor, Chairman of Al Habtoor Group of Companies.
This donation demonstrates Mr Al Habtoor’s strong commitment to academic excellence in higher education in the UAE and throughout the Gulf. Generations of students will benefit from the gift. It will enable AUS to produce world-class research.
The delegation also invited Mr Khalaf Al Habtoor to be the keynote speaker at the Alumni Business Forum, on March 15, 2011. The forum will bring together industry leaders from the Gulf region, as well as students, AUS alumni, VIPs and honorary guests. Panels of prominent speakers will discuss topics in the areas of business, engineering and innovation, energy, and media and technology, producing an informative, dynamic exchange of views.
