The Al Habtoor brothers, Rashid and Mohammed, faced each other at the Beach Polo final. Joanna Andrews was watching from the sidelines to see who would take the prize.
The venue was spectacular, the crowds were on form - and the polo was superb. Four teams fought it out in the Julius Baer Beach Polo Cup Dubai at the Mina A’Salam hotel on 19-20 April; Julius Baer team, Maradiva team, The Al Habtoor brothers, Rashid and Mohammed, faced each other at the Beach Polo final. Joanna Andrews was watching from the sidelines to see who would take the prize.
Aston Martin team and Le Clos team. Three-time winners Maradiva (2004, 2005 and 2006) made it to the final. The defending champions included the Patron, Mohammed Al Habtoor, his son Habtoor Al Habtoor and Argentinean professional JJ Storni. They were up against the Julius Baer team, the Patron Rashid Al Habtoor, his son Khalaf Al Habtoor and Argentinean professional Nacho Gonzales.
Gonzales scored five goals in the final game but it was the young Khalaf Al Habtoor who scored the final point to take Julius Bear team to victory in a 6-3 win. Maradiva had fought hard with Habtoor Al Habtoor scoring a great goal for his team earlier in the match. On the same day, Le Clos defeated Aston Martin 6-5 to claim the third place.
The yearly event was sponsored by Swiss Private Bank Julius Baer, Aston Martin, Le Clos and Maradiva. Among the crowd was American singing legend Lionel Richie and Al Habtoor Group Chairman, Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor.
