Said Hassan is project manager and says the job is a tricky one due to its location in the heart of the city but with 30 years in the construction industry, he is enjoying the challenge. “It will look similar to the Emirates Tower in Dubai when completed,” he said. “We hope to be topping out by September 2001 and so far it is going very well. We have had to do a lot of digging for the infrastucutre and the underground car parks but we are moving along with the project nicely now.”
While a large chunk of the building’s 33 storeys will be occupied by the National Bank of Abu Dhabi, several floors will be available for leasing. The ground floor will be the main banking hall complete with reception and automatic tellers. The mezzanine floor to 15th floor will be allocated for offices such as branch, personnel, share, property management and international banking. The sixth floor will also have an auditorium with a capacity of 126 seats.
The 16th to 24th floor will be typical floors intended for lease while the 25th to 29th floors are for higher management purposes. From the 26th floor, the building will split into two towers with Tower A standing at 47 metres and Tower B slightly shorter at 32 metres. These towers will be linked by bridges at the 26th, 27th and 28th floors. The 30th to 33rd floors will house the services amenities such as chillers, lift machine and the window cleaning system.
The building will have three entrances at ground floor level, with the main entrance reflecting the architectural feature of the building displaying fountains, curtain walling, an inverted prism and flooring with high quality granite tiles. The inverted prism starts from ground level and reaches all the way up to the fifth floor.
Visitors will also be greeted by a spacious atrium which stretches up to the fourth floor.
Every floor in the National Bank of Abu Dhabi Building will contain male and female toilets complete with washing room facilities. These will be finished with granite floors and aglomarite marble walls. Tea rooms will also be provided on each floor.
The main lift lobbies and adjacent lift lobbies will be finished with granite cladding and flooring. False ceiling to these areas will be a special type combining the gypsum board with aluminium tiles and timber tiles.
The building will be serviced by 10 lifts, including a panoramic lift which can take people from the basement to the fourth floor. There will also be a VIP lift.
